Local move within Fredericton, NB

Great job

This company recently did 2 moves for us, one from our apartment into our house and one to unload our container from out west into the same house. We found them to be easy to deal with and very helpful. They were efficient, careful, trustworthy, hardworking, and very friendly. We would definitely recommend them.

Long-distance move from Nova Scotia to Ontario

Delivered Damaged Items.

Absolutely horrible experience with this company. Damaged furniture was delivered and no accountability for the damage what so ever. Was told it was our fault for not packing it properly and the damage happened because it was pressed wood not solid wood. Only offer was to return the dresser to it's original location in NS and glue it and then return it back to ON- which would take at least one month. Was called an "idiot" by Jeff Smith the owner, for simply expecting to receive the furniture without damage. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH ANYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT DAMAGED.

A simple $ 75.00 fix that you refused . A loose pressed wood molding/ panel that simply needed to be glued back together as any furniture medic would do and you refused . most unfortunate . Insurance coverage is meant to fix items that need a simple repair not replace the whole dresser .

Long-distance move from Ontario to Nova Scotia

Almost excellent.

Contacted Jeff Smith over a year ago, January 2015. We discussed my possible move in future as my home in Ontario was for sale. Making sure that I had a good mover as I knew that my home was selling soon, I contacted Jeff again February 2016. I had a contract for sale on my home. After some changes to the items, we came to agreed price. His workers showed up and did a great job. They showed respect for me and the contents of my home. Wrapped delicate items and took their time to explain any questions that I had. Within one week my items were delivered and placed in my home in Nova Scotia, downstairs and upstairs and some items were placed on my deck as per my instructions. Mike and Matthew showed respect for my home and my belongings. I have not checked the plastic totes for any damages, but as of right now I cannot say anything negative about this company. If you are looking for a fair priced company who will give you a quote and stick with the price and deliver without hassles or damage, this is the company you should hire. Long-distance move from Ontario to Prince Edward Island

Everything damaged, unprofessional owner.

We choose this moving company based on price, wanting to support local companies, and their claim that they were insured. We also paid them to pack our belongings in addition to the move. The movers were lovely, however every item moved with a surface was damaged. Even my $2000 coffee machine was damaged as water was not removed before they packed it and the sub-zero temperatures broke all the plumbing. They have yet to submit a receipt for services rendered (after four requests), and attempts made to make an insurance claim via the owner have resulted in angry, threatening emails. Sadly, we are now in the process of seeking legal counsel and submitting a complaint through the Better Business Bureau. We would NOT recommend this company to anyone who cares about their belongings.

Your items upon delivery were moved into a trailer that you provided because you house was not finished and or ready . We properly placed all the furniture items in your storage trailer . we asked you if you had any coverings to cover your furniture and because we could not leave our equipment behind the furniture was not covered in your storage trailer . Also the storage trailer was moved after by you . WE told you to secure your furniture before moving the trailer but obviously you didn't , therefore you caused the damage and once we are finished a move whatever damage you do too your items is not my companies responsibility .

Long-distance move from Prince Edward Island to Ontario

Bad moving experience.

Moving from PEI to Ontario at end of Aug.
Original quote was $1100, but final quote is much higher than original prices just half an hour before delivery and use hostage strategy to force the payment.
After unloading, I measured all stuff, which is 200 Cubic feet only compared with 300 Cubic feet charged. $300 over charged.
Coffee table legs broken. Get a repair expert and paid $45, the result is unrepairable. Total damage over $400.
Other minor issues like missing screws and nuts, try to fix by myself.
Not recommended for future business.

Service cost: $1600

Official company response

Again pressed wood furniture must be dismantled before moving . You had informed us this would so done prior to us picking the items up , but it was not done . we told you the pressed wood student desk and shelves were in rickety and loose condition and probably would get worse upon transporting those items . Also the cubic dimensions that we measured was based on the actual size of your shipment not was the size would be if you had dismantled your students desks and shelves . You were charged fairly and treated professionally . WE even provided a downtown Toronto delivery in the evening as requested . we tried to make you happy but we see now that was impossible .

Long-distance move from Nova Scotia to Quebec

Slow, sloppy, and uncommunicative.

I'll give a break down of how I cam to this rating.

Let's say we start with 3 stars, as an average score. They get minus -1 Star for Uncommunicative and terse emails, -1 Star for delivering my shipment 3 days later than the promised time frame, -1 Star for losing the inventory sheets and not having proper record of which things belonged to my shipment, -1 Star for delivering to me an item that belonged to someone else, -1 Star for damaging furniture and boxes, and -1 Star Promising to repair said furniture, stretching it out for months, and then not following through.

So that actually leaves them with a final score of negative 3 stars.

Now, here is the longer version: I hired them to for my move from Nova Scotia to Quebec. They picked my things up on time, and I did not here from them afterwards. As the time frame for delivery approached, a week or two later, I sent them an email asking if they had an ETA, the response to which was a single line of text stating that it would be not arriving in the original frame due to unforeseen circumstances.

When my things eventually arrived, I was given an inventory sheet by the movers which was obviously a sloppy recreation of the original – it did not have all of my items marked on it, many of them without numbers or descriptions. It even had an item on it that did not belong to me. There was damage done to a few of my items. My spinning wheel was in pieces, and the damage it received was obviously done after it had for some reason been removed from the shipping blankets that they originally put it in. A plastic Tote was broken apart in one of it's corners, and a cardboard box had a large hole in it – when I unpacked the box, I found a rock in the bottom of it (the same size as the hole).

I called up the owner of the business, Jeff Smith, in regards to the damage and he could not speak to me without yelling and talking over me. He stepped away from the phone at one point to yell abusively at someone else in his office as well.

After being on the phone with him for an hour, he agreed to have my spinning wheel repaired, telling me that he could pick it up from me soon and ship it to the person that knew how to repair it. A week later, he told me that he would pick it up at the end of the month (2 1/2 weeks away) when the end of the month was approaching, I sent him an email asking him for an ETA and he did not respond. Three more weeks later, I get a phone call out of the blue – more than a month since I last heard from anyone at this company - at 9:00PM on a weekday, from a truck driver telling me that he'd be at my place within an hour to pick up the spinning wheel. At this point I had no trust or patience for these people left, so I told them that wasn't going to work. I sent another email to Jeff suggesting that he give me the money that he was going to pay the wood worker to repair the wheel, so that I can find someone nearby me to do the repairs, and he has not responded.

A spinning wheel ( that already was in loose and rough shape and that should have been packaged as you promised you would ) that you was supposed to pack and you didn't . we cannot be held responsible for items that should have been put into boxes . We offered to package for you but and we understand is was financially prohibitive for you but if you do not pay us to do the packaging than the onus is on you to do so . The time frames were three day windows for both pickup and delivery for a long distance move . we provided you both with a 24 to 48 hour notice before both pickup and delivery

Long-distance move from Ontario to Prince Edward Island

Damaged and missing goods, higher cost than quoted.

This company is the worst moving experience we have ever had. We paid the required deposit, they showed up three days late. They showed up late the day they did show up. The truck was too small even though they knew what we had, we ended up giving up appliances and more, which cost even more on the other end of our move. We paid the required payment when they did arrive. When they arrived at our new home four days late they wouldn't deliver until the final amount was paid, then they showed up four hours later. total paid was 2800 over quote plus the cost of replacement appliances. We had damaged goods including an antique. We were missing some goods as well, we are still waiting the return of these items. These people don't like resolving customer issues.

Hello Mr. Wilke, this is Michael again. I wanted to start off by thanking you for your business and also to state that we will be sending your ladder back to you via UPS or FedEx. In order to address the first issue which is the arrival of the truck at the pick up location. We did arrive within the time frame that was suggested (albeit the latter part of that time frame). The reason for the price increase was because it was a guaranteed price based on the list of items presented to us on your initial email. As I stated before, I am the Michael that was on the pickup in Omemee and the drop off in Murray Harbour and there were far more items to pick up than what was on your list. We did send you our largest truck that did not have prior obligations elsewhere. We did offer to send a U-Haul to pick up the extra items but this was declined by you.
I have talk to james and mike at length concerning your move , Doug . According to them the problem was really the amount of boxes ( 300 or over ) and the lack of things properly being boxed , which according to James , who has many years experience ' there would have been enough room for everything ' . I could only go by what you had informed me was being moved and the truck was the right size . Again the problem was things just weren't properly prepared in order to properly fit everything into truck . I trust my personnel and I do know for a fact that they were frustrated in how things were prepared and boxed . I realize your not a professional mover but when the guys are informing me that it was one of the worse customer prepared moves they had seen ,I believe them and rely on the information they forward to me . . So the price charged to you is 100 % reflective of the amount we moved for you , rather the extra items is furniture or boxes or a combination of both including items that weren't in boxes but not furniture . I do not in anyway wish to offend you but only a desire that you can understand that when we move more than what was previously thought , I simply prorate the size of your shipment . jeff smith TOTTEN'S MOVING 902-629-1544 Charlottetown 902-629-1544 Moncton 506-853-9644.

Long-distance move from Toronto, ON to Saint John, NB

Very Happy with service from Totten's Moving.

I have used this company on two occasions to move crates of glass on both occasions from Toronto to Saint John, NB. On both occasions the shipment pick up and drop off was on time was as indicated. I was initially concerned about shipping glass, but after the first experience, I was absolutely comfortable to use this moving company again for the second shipment. The guys took very good care in packing the glass on the truck to ensure the shipment arrived intact without any damage at all.
From the outset I found Jeff Smith to be quite professional and courteous. His quotes for both shipments were fair and competitive without any alteration of price at a later date which frequently occurs with other moving companies. My frequent communication with him was prompt and precise.
I have absolutely no hesitation in the future to use Totten's Moving & Storage to transport my items between Ontario and the Maritimes.
Thanks Jeff for a job well done.
